Highlights from "Consensus" Rabbi
Ed Romm Our Russian language program, Consensus, a division of Project Oded Continuing Education, is fulfiling its mission of reaching out to "olim", from the Former Soviet Union and connecting them with Conservative Judaism and the United Synagogue Fuchsberg Jerusalem Center. Yosef Begun, a well known refusnick, who arrived in Israel in 1985, after spending 9½ years in a Soviet prison, coordinates this vital program. Yosef Begun's reputation attracts Russian-speaking Jews wanting to learn about Jewish tradition in a non-coercive environment. Consensus meets on Wednesday evenings for lectures, cultural programs and get-togethers. In addition, our Russian olim have a special flare for holiday celebrations and intense discussions on issues of the day.
Maayan
The United Synagogue has launched this fall "Maayan" a program for young adults and students from the FSU (former Soviet Union). Programs are facilitated in Russian and Hebrew and deal with a wide range of themes including the "Shoah". The program is directed by Ola Weinstein, a Masorti Movement activist and a speaker of Russian and Hebrew.
